CM-KP calls for sustained UK support across key sectors

\nKhyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur on Wednesday said that the province was facing serious law and order challenges and lasting peace could not be established in the region until the situation in Afghanistan improves.
\nHe expressed these views during a meeting with British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, where matters of mutual interest and the regional law and order situation were discussed, a handout said.
\nOn the occasion, the Chief Minister emphasized the need to adopt the path of negotiations and traditional jirgas as a permanent solution for peace in the region. He added that KP had hosted Afghan brothers and sisters for many decades, and now seeks their dignified return.
\nCM Gandapur maintained that the provincial government was providing all possible facilities to Afghan refugees returning to their homeland.
\nBesides, Ali Amin appreciated the role of the British government\u2019s subsidiary institutions, particularly the SEED and SNG programs, in enhancing the capacity of provincial departments. He affirmed that the provincial government would continue these programs.
\nHe further said that KP was facing the challenges of climate change and that the government was making significant investments to mitigate its impacts. The process of restoring infrastructure damaged by recent floods was also underway.
\nThe Chief Minister highlighted that special attention is being paid to economic development, especially the provision of employment opportunities in the merged districts. To ensure better utilization of development resources, the government is focusing on effective planning and the digitization of administrative affairs to promote transparency.
\nHe stressed the need for continued cooperation from international development partners in these sectors. While discussing ongoing public welfare projects supported by the British government, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of expanding partnerships and cooperation in the social sector between the provincial government and British institutions.
\nDuring the meeting, British High Commissioner Jane Marriott also indicated the potential launch of a new development program in the province following the SEED and SNG programs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
