Akram Raja says the rally\u2019s core objective is to demand the release of Imran
\n PESHAWAR
\nA historic rally, said to be the largest in the city\u2019s history, is scheduled to take place in Peshawar today (Saturday) in support of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and other \u201cpolitical prisoners\u201d. Senior lawyer and political leader of PTI Salman Akram Raja confirmed the development, stating that the rally\u2019s core objective was to demand the release of individuals imprisoned under what he termed as unconstitutional and illegal circumstances.
\n\u201cThe people of Pakistan will gather in Peshawar to stand against injustice and raise their voice for those who have been unjustly jailed,\u201d Raja said. He also condemned the recent tragic incident in Tirah, noting that Imran Khan had expressed strong anger and sorrow over the matter.
\nRaja further criticized actions being taken against the press, claiming that notices are being issued to journalists across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the First Act. He also mentioned that five sitting Supreme Court judges have reportedly begun speaking out and are preparing to take to the streets in protest.
\nFormer National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser echoed these concerns. \u201cThis rally is about the political activists who are behind bars for no legal reason,\u201d Qaiser said. He added that the province has been economically devastated, and historical conflicts such as the Afghan war, which began after the Russian invasion, have left a long-term impact.
\nQaiser emphasized that Chairman PTI has directed that no operations should be carried out in KP, calling for peace in the region. \u201cWe demand that the province remain free from conflict and appeal to all political parties to unite for peace,\u201d he said.
\nPTI leader Junaid Akbar stated that public trust in Imran Khan remains unwavering. \u201cThe morale of the people is high, and tomorrow\u2019s rally will be historic,\u201d he said. Akbar also noted that due to restrictions on political gatherings in Punjab, Sindh, and Gilgit-Baltistan, the decision was made to launch the movement from Peshawar.
\nChief Minister KP Ali Amin Gandapur issued a strong call for unity. \u201cThis is a struggle not only for the release of Imran Khan but also for the real and lasting freedom of your children,\u201d Gandapur said. \u201cPut all differences aside , we must stand together and turn our weakness into strength.
