\nThe Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced to strengthen the province\u2019s fisheries sector with the establishment of a Fish Biodiversity Center in Peshawar and the introduction of modern technology in fish farming. This was announced by Provincial Minister for Livestock and Fisheries, Fazal Hakeem Khan Yousafzai, while presiding over a high-level meeting on fisheries development in Peshawar.
\nThe meeting was attended by Director General Fisheries Muhammad Shafi Marwat, Director Planning and Development Zubair Ali, Director Headquarters Fawad Khalil, and other senior officials.
\nMinister Yousafzai emphasized that the center\u2019s establishment is a critical step towards sustainable development in the fisheries sector and issued directives for the immediate removal of all obstacles delaying the project.
\nHe called for its inauguration to be ensured at the earliest.
\n\u201cThe slow pace of development in the fisheries sector is due to a lack of research and innovation. Globally, fisheries thrive on strong research foundations, and we must follow the same path,\u201d the minister stated.
\nHe further directed that a high-level meeting be convened next week to initiate practical work on the project without delay.
\nIn addition, the minister ordered the up-gradation of the province\u2019s largest fish hatchery in Sherabad, noting that modernizing the facility would ensure a steady supply of juvenile fish to both landowners and natural water bodies, including rivers and dams.
\nDuring the briefing, DG Fisheries Muhammad Shafi Marwat informed the minister that a comprehensive proposal for the hatchery\u2019s upgradation has already been submitted and will be implemented upon approval.
\nThe minister made it clear that delays in the development of the fisheries sector will not be tolerated.
