\n PESHAWAR
\nRetired employees of the Capital Metropolitan Government Peshawar have given the authorities a deadline of October 10, to ensure the release of their long-pending pension payments.
\nThe announcement was made by the Local Government Pensioners Association leaders, including Chairman Riaz Khan, President Mukhtiar Khan, and General Secretary Muhammad Fazal Khan, along with other representatives on Sunday.
\nThey warned that if the pensions are not paid by the deadline, a protest camp will be set up on Monday, October 13, in front of the Metropolitan Office at Bacha Khan Chowk, Peshawar, which will continue until their demands are met.
\nThe leaders expressed deep concern over the situation, stating that despite that the provincial government providing a grant of Rs. 300 million to the Metropolitan Government, thousands of pensioners have still not received their due payments.
\nThey informed that the grant was issued with the assurance that it would cover three months of salaries, pensions and other operational expenses, yet the promise has not been fulfilled.
\nMore than 4,000 retired male and female employees are suffering, visiting banks daily only to return disappointed. Many elderly pensioners, they added, are facing severe financial hardship and some are even unable to afford basic necessities such as flour, sugar, cooking oil, and medicine. While, others have received eviction notices from landlords or had their electricity and gas connections cut off due to non-payment.
\nThe association leaders have appealed to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, the Minister for Local Government, the Secretaries of Local Government and Finance and officials from Anti-Corruption and NAB to launch a transparent investigation into the misuse of pension funds and ensure immediate payment to all affected pensioners.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
