Shah chairs meeting on C&W dept good governance initiatives

\nChief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shahab Ali Shah has emphasized the need for adopting modern technology in the construction sector to meet contemporary demands and improve departmental efficiency.
\nHe was chairing a high-level meeting of the Communication and Works (C&W) Department to review ongoing good governance initiatives, a handout said.
\nThe statement said that the meeting was attended by Secretary C&W and other concerned officials.
\nA detailed briefing was given on the establishment of the Strategic Planning, Design and Supervision Unit (SPDSU) aimed at enhancing the department\u2019s technical capabilities.
\nThe unit, a key priority under the KP government\u2019s Good Governance Roadmap, will help improve project planning and execution, reduce costs, promote transparency, and encourage the use of modern construction technology.
\nVarious models for setting up the unit were discussed during the session.
\nThe meeting also reviewed the pilot project of introducing light gauge structures in public construction. Initially, eight schools across five districts have been selected for this initiative. These schools, officials said, will be completed in one-third less time and will have a life span of up to 50 years.
\nIn a major digital shift, the C&W Department has fully migrated to e-PADs, an e-procurement system where bid submission, call deposits, and work evaluations are now done online\u2014ensuring greater transparency.
\nAdditionally, the Road Asset Management System has been activated to inspect and analyze road infrastructure more efficiently.
