PESHAWAR
\nKhyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar, in collaboration with the HEC Pink Ribbon Awareness Program, organized a Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar aimed at promoting early diagnosis, prevention, and timely treatment of the disease.
\nThe event was attended by KMU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Zia-ul-Haq, Dean Basic Medical Sciences Associate Professor Dr. Rubina Nazli, Professor Dr. Andleeb Aftab (Associate Professor of Chemistry, Army Public School Peshawar), Dean Nursing Sciences Professor Dr. Dildar Muhammad, Professor Dr. Najma Naz, faculty members, students, and members of the public. The seminar was organized by Lecturer Imran Waheed, the focal person of the event.
\nIn her presentation, Professor Dr. Najma Naz shared a comparative review of previous and current breast cancer research, highlighting the rising trend of the disease and modern treatment approaches.
\nVice Chancellor Dr. Zia-ul-Haq noted that the increasing incidence of breast cancer poses a serious challenge for society, calling for urgent action at the levels of public awareness, early diagnosis, research, and policymaking. He emphasized that women should take responsibility for their health and undergo regular screenings.
\nProfessor Dr. Rubina Nazli stated that one in every eight women worldwide is affected by breast cancer. She stressed that early detection significantly increases the chances of effective treatment. She urged women to practice regular self-examination and seek medical advice in case of any unusual changes.
\nHighlighting a personal perspective, Professor Dr. Andleeb Aftab, a breast cancer survivor, shared her three-year journey to recovery. She credited her survival to early diagnosis, proper treatment, and the unwavering support of healthcare professionals and her family. \u201cWith the grace of Allah, patience, and courage, no difficulty is insurmountable,\u201d she said, encouraging women to prioritize both their physical and mental health.
\nThe seminar concluded with powerful awareness sketches performed by students, emphasizing prevention and early detection. An awareness walk followed, with enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, and staff.
