\nSindh Assembly member and government spokesperson Sadia Javed Wednesday, stressed the urgent need for public awareness over the rising drug abuse among students and called for stringent laws and decisive action against peddlers and their accomplices.
\nWhile speaking to a private news channel, Sindh government spokesperson strongly condemned the rising incidents of drug abuse in educational institutions, adding, urgent need for comprehensive legal reforms and a targeted crackdown on drug peddlers operating near and within campuses.
\n\u201cThere can be no shelter for those poisoning our students. We must act now, with zero tolerance,\u201d she said. Sadia Javed highlighted that the Government of Sindh has already constituted a dedicated anti-drug force to curb the increasing spread of narcotics, especially among school, college and university students.
\nThe Campus Security and Substance Abuse Watch Force, comprising 50 police personnel, was established to curb the menace of drugs in educational institutions within the jurisdiction of the South Zone of Karachi police. The formation of this task force is a direct response to the alarming rate at which drugs are infiltrating academic spaces and threatening the safety, health, and future of the youth, she added.
\nCalling students the \u201cfuture assets of the nation,\u201d the spokesperson stressed that it is society\u2019s collective responsibility to safeguard the younger generation from the curse of drugs. Responding to a query, she said it was agreed that parents would be made aware of the dangers of substance abuse and the critical role regular testing plays, ensuring their informed consent and active involvement.
\nShe further stated that the Sindh government has presented a law-making resolution and emphasized the need for everyone to work together on it. She urged lawmakers, educational authorities, parents, and communities to stand united in this fight. \u201cIf we lose our youth to drugs, we lose our future.
