\nA delegation of Sikh Yatrees from the United Kingdom and the United States visited Poonch House and the Bhagat Singh Gallery yesterday, where they were warmly received by officials of the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP).
\nConstructed in 1849, Poonch House stands as a significant architectural landmark representing the colonial-era heritage of Lahore. The delegation was briefed by the TDCP guide on the historical importance of the building, which has been meticulously restored by the Government of Punjab as part of its ongoing commitment to preserving and promoting cultural heritage.
\nThe successful restoration and revitalization of this iconic structure has been carried out under the magnificent vision of Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who has prioritized heritage conservation as a cornerstone of expanding tourism and preserving cultural identity in the province.
\nSimilarly, the Senior Minister of Punjab, Mariyam Aurangzeb, has been driving heritage promotion with a progressive and dynamic approach, ensuring historic sites are preserved with authenticity while being presented through modern and engaging interpretations.
\nA documentary was screened in the Committee Room, showcasing the restoration journey, architectural value, and Bhagat Singh\u2019s pivotal role in the independence struggle against British colonial rule. The visitors appreciated the high-quality preservation work executed with complete respect for historical originality.
\nThe delegation later toured the Bhagat Singh Gallery, where the final phase of the revolutionary leader\u2019s 1931 court trial has been portrayed through well-curated exhibits.
\nThey were given a detailed briefing on Bhagat Singh\u2019s life, his struggle for freedom, legal proceedings, imprisonment, and personal belongings on display.
\nA major attraction for the visitors was the replica courtroom, restored to represent the 1931 trial setting \u2014 offering a compelling insight into the defining moments of Bhagat Singh\u2019s bravery and sacrifice. The Sikh Yatrees expressed deep admiration for the way the gallery honors one of the subcontinent\u2019s greatest freedom icons.
\nThe visitors also explored the Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC) souvenir stall, where they purchased beautifully crafted mementos related to Poonch House and Bhagat Singh.
\nThe delegation praised the Punjab Government for transforming heritage sites into centers of cultural learning and tourism.
