\nJamaat-e-Islami (JI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter has strongly opposed the ongoing military operation in Tirah Valley and demanded that the provincial government led by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) clearly state its position, questioning what it termed as contradictory policies of the Chief Minister and the provincial cabinet.
\nThese views were expressed by JI KP Central Ameer Abdul Wasi while addressing a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club (PPC) on Tuesday.
\nHe was accompanied by Provincial General Secretary and former MNA Sabir Hussain, Khyber District Ameer Shah Faisal Afridi, and Jamaat-e-Islami Khyber District leader Khan Wali Afridi.
\nAbdul Wasi said the party completely condemns the operation in Tirah Valley, stating that similar operations had previously been conducted in Khyber district under various names but failed to bring lasting peace.
\nInstead, he said, such operations caused displacement of local residents, damaged infrastructure, and extended far beyond their announced timelines.
\nHe noted that people of Tirah had already begun migrating due to fears that their homes, built through years of hard work, would be destroyed. Although authorities have announced a two-month timeframe for the operation, he said uncertainty and anxiety prevail among residents.
\nCriticizing the provincial leadership, Abdul Wasi said the Chief Minister was publicly opposing the operation in the media, while at the same time funds were being allocated for it during cabinet meetings.
\n\u201cWhat kind of politics is this?\u201d he questioned, urging the Chief Minister to focus on KP instead of \u201cthe streets of Lahore\u201d and play an effective role in restoring peace in the province.
\nHe further said that resolutions passed by the provincial assembly and decisions taken during the All Parties Peace Jirga held on November 12 had not been implemented.
\nAccording to him, only one meeting of the jirga was held, after which complete silence prevailed.
\nReferring to the provincial cabinet meeting of November 14, Abdul Wasi said development and provincial funds were announced for Tirah residents, which, in his view, indicated full provincial government support for the operation.
