\nKhyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has directed the relevant departments to complete all necessary homework at the earliest for the extension of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service to Jamrud and Bara Bazaar in tribal Khyber district, a handout said.
\nAccording to the statement, CM Afridi stated that the BRT extension would not only facilitate easier transportation between Peshawar and Khyber district but would also provide safe, quality, and affordable travel facilities to the people of the area, while helping reduce traffic congestion and environmental pollution.
\nThe directives were issued during a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister to review progress on the proposed extension of the BRT service to Jamrud and Bara Bazaar.
\nChief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, Additional Chief Secretary Planning and Development Ikramullah, Secretary Transport, and other concerned officials were present at the meeting.
\nDuring the meeting, it was decided to construct a dedicated ramp at Karkhano Station at an estimated cost of Rs 500 million to facilitate the BRT operations.
\nWhile briefing the Chief Minister on infrastructure, bus procurement, and operational requirements, officials informed that 12 new 12-meter buses would be purchased to initiate the BRT service for Jamrud and Bara Bazaar.
\nUnder the plan, eight bus stops will be established along a five-kilometer stretch from Karkhano Market to Jamrud Bazaar, while ten bus stops will be set up over a seven-kilometer route from Pushtkhara to Bara Bazaar.
\nThe meeting was also informed that the existing BRT network comprises 18 routes with a total length of 132 kilometers.
\nIt was further shared that by June 2026, 52 additional diesel-hybrid buses will be inducted into the BRT fleet at a cost of Rs 3.2 billion. Moreover, 50 electric buses will also be added at an estimated cost of Rs 6.2 billion to further enhance the system\u2019s capacity and sustainability.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
