\nA memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed today between Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) and the globally renowned technology company Cisco\u2019s educational platform, Cisco NetAcad to promote educational collaboration.
\nThe purpose of this agreement is to equip students with modern IT, networking, cybersecurity and digital skills so that they can effectively compete in both national and international markets.
\nThe signing ceremony of the MoU was held at the university\u2019s main campus where Registrar Raja Umar Younus signed the agreement on behalf of the university and Aamir Omar, Account Executive, Cisco systems International signed on behalf of the company.
\nThe ceremony was presided over by Prof. Dr. Sher Muhammad Dean of the Faculty of Sciences.
\nSpeaking at the event, Prof. Dr. Sher Muhammad stated that in the present era, universities have a responsibility to prepare graduates who not only possess theoretical knowledge but are also equipped with practical skills in line with industry requirements.
\nHe added that Cisco is a globally recognized institution and this educational partnership will provide students with significant opportunities in the field of modern technology.
\nRegistrar Raja Umar Younus in his speech mentioned that Computer Science program is currently being successfully taught not only at the main campus but also in the Karachi and Lahore regions.
\nAccording to the Vice Chancellor\u2019s vision it will soon be extended to other regional campuses as well. He emphasized that we live in a technological era where traditional degrees alone are no longer sufficient.
\nSuccessful students will be those who gain expertise in computer science and modern technology. He advised students to hone their technical and professional skills during their studies so that they can secure respectable employment for themselves and contribute positively to the national economy.
\nChairman, Department of Computer Sciencem Dr. Aftab Khan noted that currently over 1,500 students are enrolled in the face-to-face BS Computer Science program while more than 200 applications have already been received for the newly introduced ODL-based BS Computer Science program.
\nHe stated that the primary objective of this collaboration with Cisco is to enhance students\u2019 practical skills so that after graduation they are in demand in the job market and have better employment opportunities.
\nFahim Anwar, representing Cisco provided a detailed introduction to the educational programs offered through Cisco NetAcad and described this partnership as a significant and positive development for the university\u2019s students.
