\nThe Local Government Department, under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cities Improvement Project (KPCIP), will install water flow meters and SCADA systems on tube-wells, while replacing old pipelines in Peshawar, Kohat, Abbottabad, and Mingora.
\nOfficials say the move aims to cut non-revenue water, reduce leakages, and slow groundwater depletion caused by over-extraction and urban expansion. Over 1,100 km of pipelines will be replaced, including 577 km in Mingora and 353 km in Kohat.
\nWith demand outpacing supply \u2014 Mingora needing 11 MGD against 7 MGD extracted, and Abbottabad requiring 7 MGD against 3.5 MGD \u2014 authorities hope modern monitoring and infrastructure upgrades will improve water governance and sustainability.KP govt to install water meters, replace rusted pipeline to curb water losses in major cities.
