\nKhyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar organized the first meeting of the Basic Medical Sciences (BMS) Research Consortium under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Rubina Nazli, Dean Basic Medical Sciences KMU.
\nThe meeting marked a significant step toward strengthening research culture and promoting collaborative scientific initiatives within the university. The session was attended by the Directors of the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences (IBMS), the Institute of Pathology and Diagnostic Medicine (IPDM), and the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IPS), along with faculty members from various departments.
\nA representative from the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) also participated to facilitate institutional coordination and administrative planning.
\nDuring the deliberations, participants unanimously acknowledged that the establishment of a formal Research Consortium is essential to advancing focused, high-impact research in Basic Medical Sciences at KMU.
\nThe initiative aims to create structured research groups, enhance interdisciplinary collaboration, and strengthen the university\u2019s national and international research standing. It was emphasized that the formation of dedicated research clusters will help align academic expertise with emerging scientific priorities and funding opportunities.
\nORIC expressed its commitment to providing full administrative and technical support for the consortium, including documentation, formal agreements, and coordination mechanisms.
\nThe Directors and faculty members welcomed the initiative and contributed constructive proposals for future research collaborations, joint projects, and capacity-building efforts across departments.
\nThe meeting concluded with a resolution to convene a second session within two weeks to finalize a detailed working framework, define priority research areas, and design thematic research groups involving multiple departments within KMU\u2019s Basic Medical Sciences.
\nIt was further agreed that consortium-related information and research data will be published on the institute\u2019s official website to enhance global academic visibility and promote international engagement.
\nTo ensure effective coordination and information sharing during the formation of the Research Consortium, focal persons were nominated from the participating institutes.
