\nThe Capital City Police claimed to have ensured mandatory registration of first information reports (FIRs) in all cases of crime and incident.
\nAccording to an official statement, the registration of FIRs policy has contributed to improved law and order in the provincial capital.
\nAccording to official data, a total of 5,143 FIRs of various categories were registered in Peshawar during the first 36 days of 2026, compared to 5,542 FIRs registered during the corresponding period last year.
\nFrom January 1 to February 5, 2026, police registered 49 FIRs for murder, 63 for attempted murder, 43 under Section 337 (A.V.F), 95 for criminal intimidation (Section 506), and 25 related to police encounters. During the same period, 883 cases were registered against drug peddlers, 442 against drug dealers, and 916 under the Arms Act. Additionally, 90 FIRs were registered under liquor laws, while 963 cases were lodged for illegal residence during search and general operations.
\nThe data further shows 95 cases under the SVEP Act, 209 for aerial firing, 432 miscellaneous cases, and 111 under local and special laws. Traffic-related enforcement included 262 FIRs for speeding and 23 for road accidents. Other cases included 12 under the Electricity Act, 30 under the Loud Speaker Act, and 27 under the Foreign Act.
\nProperty and street crime figures included 39 cases of motorcycle lifting, 31 of motorcycle snatching, 14 of car lifting and 12 of car snatching. Police also registered 42 cases under Section 382 PPC, 34 under Section 379 PPC, 19 under Sections 457, 454 and 380 PPC, 54 under Sections 392 and 394 PPC, and two cases of robbery.
\nCases involving abduction and sexual offences included eight under Section 365-B, three under Section 364-A, six under Section 365, seven under Section 376, and seven under Section 377 PPC. FIRs were also registered against usurers, illegal squatters, individuals uploading immoral content on social media, and others involved in anti-social activities.
\nPolice officials noted a significant decline in crimes against persons and property, adding that a large portion of the registered FIRs pertained to preventive and enforcement actions, including cases related to illegal weapons, aerial firing, traffic violations and narcotics.
\nThese measures, they said, have not only helped in preventing crime but have also contributed to an improved law and order environment in the city.
\nCapital City Police Officer (CCPO) Dr Mian Saeed Ahmed and SSP Operations Farhan Khan have issued clear directives making the immediate registration of FIRs mandatory in all cases of crime. Officials said concealment of crimes not only harms the public but also hampers police effectiveness, allowing criminal activity to persist.
\nPolice further stated that law and order in Peshawar has improved due to prompt action against criminal elements through search operations, blockades and intelligence-based operations. Strict action against street criminals, drug peddlers, land grabbers and illegal arms holders has helped reduce public grievances and strengthened citizens\u2019 confidence in the police.
