\nA meeting chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Local Government Meena Khan Afridi on Wednesday approved a comprehensive plan to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the historic Grand Trunk Road in Peshawar, with officials terming the initiative a step towards developing a model urban corridor in the provincial capital.
\nThe meeting was given a detailed briefing by the Peshawar Development Authority on various aspects of the proposed project, including design standards, implementation strategy and coordination with stakeholders.
\nIt was decided that in the first phase, practical work would commence from Phase Three Chowk. The project envisages modernising and improving the appearance of buildings and commercial plazas along GT Road through uniform colour schemes, upgraded fa\u00e7ades and redesigned signage.
\nSpeaking on the occasion, Mr Afridi said enhancing urban beauty and creating a more organised cityscape were among the government\u2019s priorities. He added that the initiative would not only improve the overall appearance of the city\u2019s main artery but also help promote tourism and project a positive image of Peshawar.
\nUnder the plan, the design, signage and front elevations of buildings will be developed on modern lines, keeping in view technical standards and principles of urban aesthetics. Authorities concerned have been directed to initiate practical steps at the earliest.
\nThe minister further directed that a meeting of local traders and other stakeholders be convened under the chairmanship of the deputy commissioner to take the business community into confidence.
