\nThe Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of a 22-year-old final-year student of Fatima Jinnah Medical College, Lahore, and sought a detailed report from the institution on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
\nIn a statement issued on Thursday, the council extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for strength and patience for them in this difficult time.
\nTaking serious notice of the incident and its impact on the student community, the PM&DC has asked the college administration to provide a factual account within seven days. The council has sought details including the date, time and brief circumstances of the incident as per institutional record, information about any inquiry or fact-finding committee constituted.
\nThe regulatory body has also asked the college to outline steps already taken or planned to strengthen student mental health support and counselling services, besides measures adopted to ensure safety in the hostel following the unfortunate event.
\nExpressing concern, the council noted that medical and dental students represent a vital segment of the country\u2019s future healthcare workforce. Incidents of this nature, it said, were deeply alarming and underscored the urgent need to reinforce student support systems across medical and dental institutions.
\nThe PM&DC reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the physical and mental wellbeing of students and ensuring that educational environments remain supportive, safe and responsive to their needs.
\nThe council emphasised that proactive mental health support and timely counselling could play a critical role in preventing such tragic incidents and in protecting the lives and futures of students.
