\nSpecial Assistant to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan has said that the provincial government regards journalists as key stakeholders in the province\u2019s development and urged the media fraternity to play a proactive role in safeguarding provincial rights.
\nHe was addressing the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected cabinet of the Peshawar Press Club at the Chief Minister\u2019s House in Peshawar.
\nA large number of journalists affiliated with the press club attended the event. The oath was administered by Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi.
\nCongratulating the new office-bearers, Shafi Jan expressed confidence that the cabinet would work to strengthen journalistic values, enhance the institutional credibility of the press club, and address the challenges faced by the journalist community.
\nHighlighting the sacrifices made by media professionals, he said journalists in the province have upheld the principles of truth and responsible reporting despite terrorism and ongoing security challenges.
\nHe paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the line of duty, noting that journalists continued to provide accurate and timely information to the public under extremely difficult circumstances.
\nThe special assistant reiterated that the provincial government remains committed to resolving journalists\u2019 issues on a priority basis.
\nHe said practical steps were being taken to ensure the security, welfare and professional protection of media practitioners across the province.
\nShafi Jan further stated that the KP government has created an enabling environment where journalists can perform their professional responsibilities with editorial independence and impartiality. Emphasizing the importance of press freedom, he said freedom of expression is essential for \u201cHaqiqi Azadi\u201d and sustainable development.
