\nThe Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety & Halal Food Authority has intensified its crackdown on substandard, adulterated and hazardous food items across the province, carrying out raids and inspections in multiple districts and initiating legal action against violators.
\nAccording to a spokesperson, late-night raids were conducted at the Industrial Estate in Hayatabad, Peshawar, where a fake branded mineral water filling unit was sealed. Around 500 litres of mislabelled water were destroyed on the spot, while 19 empty bottles bearing fake labels were confiscated. In the same operation, 200 kilograms of expired salt were discarded at a snacks manufacturing unit, and a confectionery unit was fined for using non-food-grade colouring.
\nDuring inspections of meat shops in Hussain Town and other tehsil areas of Peshawar, officials recovered and destroyed more than 150 kilograms of rotten and substandard meat and minced meat. The two shops involved were sealed and heavily fined.
\nIn Sherpao Bazaar and Parang Adda in Charsadda, food safety teams confiscated 2,000 litres of incorrectly labelled juice from a vehicle and imposed fines on those responsible.
\nIn Mardan, acting on a tip-off, officials raided a pickle production unit operating inside a residential house in the Bekat Ganj area. Some 500 kilograms of substandard and hazardous pickles were recovered and destroyed, and legal proceedings were initiated.
\nIn Akora Khattak Bazaar in Nowshera, inspections of meat shops, bakeries, marts and grocery stores led to the sealing of a bakery over hygiene violations. Around 200 kilograms of substandard sweets and 60 litres of used cooking oil were seized and destroyed.
\nAt entry points to Swat, checkpoint operations resulted in the disposal of 350 litres of expired beverages, four kilograms of other expired food items and 20 litres of substandard milk.
\nIn Dera Ismail Khan, joint operations by the Food Authority and district administration led to the recovery and destruction of 60 kilograms of adulterated milk from a shop.
\nDirector General Kashif Iqbal Jilani said strict action under the Food Safety Act would be taken against those endangering public health.
