\nCommissioner Rawalpindi Division Aamir Khattak on Thursday conducted a detailed visit of the ongoing beautification project at Raja Bazaar and adjoining Commercial Market, directing authorities to ensure quality, safety and timely completion of the scheme.
\nDuring the inspection, the commissioner reviewed the pace of work, construction standards and safety arrangements. He said Raja Bazaar represents the historical and commercial identity of the city and stressed that beautification work must be completed in line with modern urban requirements while preserving the area\u2019s cultural character and architectural heritage.
\nThe commissioner said that regular site visits were being conducted to monitor progress and maintain construction quality. He instructed officials to ensure the use of high-grade materials in all development activities and emphasized that public convenience must remain the top priority throughout the execution phase.
\nHe directed the administration to make alternative arrangements for pedestrians and shopkeepers during construction so that business activities in the market remain minimally affected. \u201cEfforts should be made to avoid disruption to traders and customers,\u201d he added.
\nThe commissioner further ordered that all workers must use protective gear, including helmets and jackets. He also instructed that clear signboards, protective barriers and adequate lighting arrangements be ensured at construction sites, particularly during night hours, to prevent accidents.
\nOfficials briefed the commissioner that under the beautification project, utility lines of IESCO, WASA, Sui Gas and PTCL are being shifted underground to improve the visual landscape and ensure long-term infrastructure sustainability.
\nAccording to the briefing, overall physical progress on the civil beautification work stands at 29%. The shifting of IESCO lines has reached 92 per cent completion, while Sui Gas lines are 97 per cent complete. PTCL lines have achieved 95 per cent progress and WASA lines also stand at 95 per cent completion.
\nThe project also includes construction of an arch wall, improvement of building fa\u00e7ades, installation of tuff tiles, benches, street lights, Victorian-style lights, dustbins, planters and the beautification of the main entrance.
\nThe commissioner said the Raja Bazaar beautification initiative would transform the area into a well-organized, safe and aesthetically appealing commercial hub, benefiting both the public and the trader community.
