\nPESHAWAR
\nA comprehensive draft of the proposed \u201cKhyber Pakhtunkhwa Acid, Corrosive and Burning Substances Crimes (Prevention and Rehabilitation) Act, 2026\u201d has been formally submitted to the social welfare department for further process and consideration, officials said.
\nThe draft was the culmination of six years of sustained efforts. The initiative was initially launched from the platform of the Women Parliamentary Caucus and was later pursued in an institutional manner through the KP Commission on the Status of Women.
\nPrepared under the leadership of Ayesha Naeem with legal and technical support from Asia Khattak, the proposed legislation prescribes strict penalties and outlines an enforcement mechanism to address acid and burning crimes.
\nIt also incorporates provisions for victims\u2019 medical treatment, psychological counselling, legal assistance and social rehabilitation, aiming to ensure protection of their rights and dignified reintegration into society.
\nChairperson of the commission Dr. Sumera Shams participated in the process.
\nProgram Director Amina Durrani played a role in inter-departmental coordination, stakeholder consultations and technical alignment of the draft. Advocate Amina Parvez, gender specialist Nadrat from the Social Welfare Department, and representatives of the prosecution and law departments also contributed professional and legal input to ensure the draft meets practical requirements.
