CM Afridi chairs consultative meeting with delegations of LG reps at CM House Peshawar

\nChief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Tuesday chaired a consultative meeting at the Chief Minister\u2019s House with delegations of the Local Council Association and tehsil mayors and chairmen affiliated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to discuss arrangements ahead of the expiry of local government representatives\u2019 tenure on March 15.
\nProvincial Minister for Local Government Meena Khan Afridi and senior officials of the Local Government Department were also in attendance, according to an official statement.
\nThe meeting undertook a detailed review of issues arising from the scheduled completion of the local bodies\u2019 term, with discussions focusing on ensuring institutional continuity, legal clarity and administrative stability within the local governance framework.
\nThe Chief Minister said the government was committed to preserving the continuity of the local government system through a consensus-driven and legally sound roadmap.
\nHe informed participants that the speaker of the KP Assembly would be directed to constitute a bipartisan committee comprising members from both treasury and opposition benches.
\nAccording to officials, the committee will convene within the current week and is mandated to reach a decision before March 15.
\nIt will deliberate on transitional arrangements, including the option of maintaining the existing local government structure until fresh local government elections are held, subject to legal and constitutional requirements.
\nFollowing the chief minister\u2019s assurances, the Local Council Association called off its planned strike.
\nThe committee, to be formed under the chairmanship of the speaker, will also hear the viewpoint of nominated members of the Local Council Board to ensure broader stakeholder consultation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
