\nThe recent assassination attempt on National Conference President and former Chief Minister of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah, echoed in the Indian parliament, with Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge raising concerns over the law and order situation in IIOJK.
\nSpeaking in the Rajya Sabha, Kharge described the attack as a serious matter. \u201cAn attack was carried out on Farooq Abdullah. If the attacker had got even a minute or two more, he could have killed him,\u201d Kharge said.
\nHe warned that the safety of senior political leaders in IIOJK was under threat and urged the Modi government to take the matter seriously, calling for stronger security arrangements for Farooq Abdullah.
\nParticipating in the discussion, National Conference MP Choudhary Ramzan also demanded an immediate upgrade in the security cover of the NC president, noting that Farooq Abdullah survived the attack because those around him acted swiftly and managed to overpower the assailant.
\nRamzan added that a senior political leader accompanying Farooq Abdullah sustained injuries during the scuffle before the attacker was subdued and emphasized the urgent need for better protection to prevent such incidents in the future.
\nNotably, the assailant, identified as Kamal Singh Jamwal, was arrested at the scene. He was produced before a Jammu court and sent to five days of police remand, with further investigation into the incident ongoing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
