ISLAMABAD
\nNational Grid Company of Pakistan Limited (NGC) is all set to launch a new operating model for the country\u2019s power transmission system from July 1, 2026, as part of a major organizational transformation aimed at improving efficiency and reliability.
\nThe development was shared during a briefing to Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, where NGC officials informed that the reform initiative, launched in January 2026, is progressing as planned, said a press release.
\nThe minister reaffirmed the government\u2019s full support for the transformation, terming it a critical step toward strengthening Pakistan\u2019s power sector. He appreciated the company\u2019s focus on efficiency, transparency, and accountability, adding that such reforms are essential to modernizing the national energy infrastructure.
\nThe transformation is being led by Managing Director Engr. Altaf Hussain Malik, who assumed charge in November 2025.
\nHe said the initiative aims to build a future-ready utility aligned with international best practices, ensuring a more efficient and reliable transmission system.
\nThe reform seeks to address long-standing structural challenges inherited from the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC), established in 1998. Despite NGC\u2019s evolution into a dedicated transmission service provider, its operational framework remained tied to the legacy model, resulting in inefficiencies and coordination gaps.
\nThe restructuring is based on six key pillars, including unified operations leadership to accelerate project execution, strengthened financial management for enhanced transparency, dedicated regulatory and stakeholder coordination teams, independent safety oversight, streamlined internal processes, and the adoption of modern digital systems for real-time grid management.
\nSince the launch of the initiative, NGC has made significant progress, including the appointment of key leadership, development of performance metrics, and near completion of new technology systems. The company also recently held an all-staff town hall to ensure internal alignment and transparency.
\nThe new operating model is scheduled to go live on July 1, 2026, while full operational and digital maturity is expected to be achieved by December 31, 2026.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
