\nThrough your respected newspaper, I would like to draw the attention of the higher authorities to two major problems in Khayaban-e-Sir Syed,
\nRawalpindi: the shortage of water and the lack of public transport. The population of Khayaban-e-Sir Syed has now exceeded one hundred thousand, while this housing society was established in 1964.
\nAt that time, the population was small and water supply through tube wells was sufficient. Later, water also started to be supplied through pipelines from Khanpur Dam. However, with the passage of time the population continued to increase, and the underground water level kept falling, which has now resulted in a severe water crisis.
\nMoreover, the pipelines, which are almost fifty years old, have become damaged. Due to leakages at many places, dirty water mixes with clean water, which is extremely harmful to health. The residents regularly pay their water bills to WASA; therefore, it is the government\u2019s responsibility to provide them with clean and adequate water.
\nI request the Government of Punjab and the WASA department to deepen all the tube wells in the area, immediately replace the old pipelines, and construct overhead water tanks in all four sectors of Khayaban-e-Sir Syed so that water can reach homes with proper pressure.
\nIn addition, there is also a serious shortage of public transport within Khayaban-e-Sir Syed. People belonging to middle- and low-income groups cannot afford expensive private transport for travelling to Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Therefore, I appeal to the Government of Pakistan to start a public bus service in this area so that the travel difficulties of the residents may also be reduced.
\nIt is hoped that the concerned authorities will take immediate notice of these problems.<\/p>\n
