\nUS President Donald Trump made fun of the French president and his wife during a private lunch Wednesday, as he lambasted Nato allies for not joining the war against Iran that has roiled the Middle East.
\n\u201cWe didn\u2019t need them, but I asked anyway,\u201d Trump told a private lunch in a video posted briefly on the White House YouTube channel before access was blocked.
\n\u201cI call up France, Macron \u2014 whose wife treats him extremely badly. Still recovering from the right to the jaw,\u201d Trump said.
\nHe was referring to a May 2025 news video that appeared to show Brigitte Macron shoving the French president\u2019s face on a trip to Vietnam, which Macron later rejected as part of a disinformation campaign.
\n\u201cAnd I said, \u2018Emmanuel, we\u2019d love to have some help in the Gulf even though we\u2019re setting records on knocking out bad people and knocking out ballistic missiles. We\u2019d love to have some help. If you could, could you please send ships immediately,\u2019\u201d Trump continued.
\nHe then mimics a French accent to give Macron\u2019s alleged answer: \u201c\u2019No no no, we cannot do that, Donald. We can do that after the war is won,\u2019\u201d he said.
\n\u201cI said, \u2018No no, I don\u2019t need after the war is won Emmanuel,\u2019\u201d Trump said.
\n\u201cSo I learned about Nato \u2014 Nato won\u2019t be there if we ever have the big one, you know what I mean by the big one,\u201d Trump said, without elaborating.
\nHe also branded Nato a \u201cpaper tiger,\u201d the latest salvo by Trump and his top officials against the transatlantic alliance since he returned to the White House last year.
\nOn Tuesday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the United States \u201cis going to have to reexamine\u201d its relationship with Nato once the war against Iran has concluded.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
