\nChildren have borne the brunt of the recent spell of rains across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as a report by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) revealed that a majority of those killed in rain-related incidents since March 25 were minors.
\nAccording to the PDMA, at least 26 people have died and 77 others sustained injuries due to the collapse of roofs and walls of houses in various districts of the province.
\nThe fatalities include 18 children, three men and five women, while the injured comprise 35 children, 33 men and nine women, highlighting the disproportionate impact of such disasters on vulnerable groups.
\nThe report further stated that a total of 102 houses have been damaged, of which 82 were partially destroyed and 20 were completely demolished.
\nThe incidents were reported from multiple districts, including Bannu, Abbottabad, Kohat, Peshawar, Nowshera, Bajaur, Lakki Marwat, Kurram, Hangu, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Upper Dir, Battagram, North Waziristan and Tank.
\nThe PDMA said that its teams, along with Rescue 1122, district administrations and other relevant departments, were actively engaged in relief operations and remained in close coordination.
\nAuthorities have been directed to expedite relief efforts and ensure the immediate provision of assistance and compensation to affected families, particularly in Bannu, which has been among the worst-hit districts.
\nWith intermittent rains continuing in several areas, the PDMA has warned that the current spell is likely to persist until April 4.
\nThe authority has advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel, refrain from visiting vulnerable tourist destinations, and strictly follow official advisories.
