\nPESHAWAR
\nSenior officials of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administration carried out inspections at key transport hubs in the provincial capital to ensure compliance with officially notified fares and prevent overcharging of passengers.
\nActing on the special directives of Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, Commissioner Peshawar Division Riaz Khan Mehsud, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Capt (r) Sanaullah and other officials, visited Haji Camp General Bus Stand, GT Road and the Motorway Toll Plaza. During the visits, they conducted on-the-spot inspections of passenger vehicles, particularly those operating on CNG, and gathered feedback from commuters regarding fare collection.
\nThe commissioner expressed satisfaction over the reduction in fares following the one-month suspension of base and scheduled taxes, directing transporters to fully pass on the relief to passengers.
\nHowever, strict action was taken against several transporters found violating regulations. Authorities penalised operators for overcharging passengers and exceeding prescribed seating capacities. Route permits of multiple vehicles were suspended, while excess fares collected were returned to passengers on the spot.
\nMr Mehsud personally interacted with commuters to assess service quality and addressed complaints immediately.
\nSpeaking on the occasion, the commissioner warned that arbitrary fare increases would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He reiterated that the provincial government had suspended certain taxes to provide direct relief to the public and instructed transport owners to comply without delay or face legal action.
\nHe also directed the relevant departments to deploy regular inspection teams at major transport terminals and highways to curb violations.
