\nThe Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has moved to reorganise its examination system by introducing the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency Bill, 2026 in the provincial assembly, aiming to grant greater autonomy and strengthen transparency in recruitment and admissions. The bill was presented by Law Minister Aftab Alam during a session here on Tuesday.
\nUnder the proposed law, the Education and Testing Authority will be given financial and administrative independence to improve its functioning and credibility.
\nAccording to the draft, the authority will be governed by a Board of Governors headed by the chief minister. The legislation emphasises ensuring merit and transparency in examinations, recruitment processes and admissions across institutions.
\nThe bill also proposes strict penalties against individuals involved in cheating or the use of unfair means during examinations. In a significant move, the authority will be empowered to designate any public or private facility as an examination centre when required.
\nAn endowment fund is also proposed to support the agency\u2019s financial sustainability. The ETA will be authorised to conduct tests not only for provincial departments but also for federal institutions and private organisations.
\nAdditionally, the government will retain the power to assign further responsibilities to the authority through official notification. The draft law makes it mandatory for the agency to present an annual audit report before the provincial assembly to ensure accountability.
