\nNone of TAROM\u2019s, The Romanian National Airline Company, scenarios foresees flight cancellations over the next 90 days due to fuel shortages, under these market conditions, the national air operator states, in a statement sent to AGERPRES on Friday.
\n\u2018In Romania, we do not have a kerosene supply crisis, the impact felt at industry level comes from the volatility of the price of crude oil in the medium and long term. Under these market conditions, none of TAROM\u2019s scenarios foresees flight cancellations over the next 90 days due to fuel shortages.
\nThe National Air Transport Company has ensured the necessary quantities of kerosene, reconfirmed with its suppliers and will continue to offer safe, professionally coordinated flights, in normal mode,\u2019 the cited document states.
\nPreviously, officials from the International Energy Agency (IEA) warned that parts of Europe could face a shortage in jet fuel supplies in the next six weeks, given that approximately 75% of Europe\u2019s net kerosene imports come from the Middle East.
\nOn the other hand, in the press release sent on Friday by AGERPRES, TAROM accused commercial damage, after information appeared in the press according to which the Government would decide in two weeks whether to close TAROM. According to the airline, hundreds of B2B tickets and contracts for charter flights that were to be purchased by partners were put on standby in less than 24 hours from the press appearances, until the end of April.
\n\u2018TAROM is mentioned in the CNR9 report published yesterday (Thursday, no) which indicates that the Romanian state intends to get involved in analyzing the strategic direction of the National Air Transport Company, without interfering with current operational activities.
\nTAROM\u2019s activity continues as normal, the variants communicated to the press on April 16, which are under evaluation, may lead to guidelines and future decisions on the form that the company\u2019s strategy will take, not to immediate decisions on the substance, respectively not on the daily operations of TAROM\u2019, emphasizes the cited source.
\nAccording to TAROM, the focus is now on discussions and negotiations with the European Commission on extending the deadline for completing the Restructuring Plan after December 30, 2026.
\n\u2018This approach appears in the context of TAROM\u2019s activity affected by the unprecedented conflict in the Middle East which led either to the cancellation of flights or to the drastic reduction of passengers to destinations affected by the war, during which the company is not allowed to change its flight routes listed in the Restructuring Plan submitted in 2022\u2019, the statement also states.
\nDeputy Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu announced on Thursday that next week she will propose for approval in the Government a memorandum on the recovery of the 22 state-owned companies analyzed in an information note presented at the Executive meeting.
\nGheorghiu explained that each company went through a self-assessment process on seven dimensions – strategy, governance, business model, commercial, operational, patrimonial and financial performance – following which a strategic classification and a recommendation for action were made for each entity.
\nShe mentioned operational recovery as an option in the case of CFR Calatori, Metrorex and TAROM.
\n\u2018These companies need firm recovery measures, implemented with the support of specialists who have so far carried out recoveries in other countries or in other similar companies, and where appropriate, notification to the European Commission for possible state aid is needed,\u2019 Gheorghiu declared.
\nThe Romanian National Airline Company – TAROM was established in 1954 and operates under the authority of the Ministry of Transport, being a member of the SkyTeam Alliance since June 25, 2010. The National Carrier of Romania owns a fleet of 10 aircraft and has in its portfolio a number of over 50 destinations operated with its own aircraft or served by its code share partners.
\nFrom the summer of 2026, TAROM will begin the modernization of its own fleet with a minimum of four Boeing 737 aircraft, of which the first two will arrive in July and August this year.
