\nAdviser to the Chief Minister on Finance Muzzammil Aslam on Tuesday said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government would resume wheat procurement through cash funding to support farmers and strengthen strategic reserves.
\nIn a statement, he said timely intervention by the provincial government had reduced wheat prices from Rs13,500 to Rs9,000, helping bring down flour prices not only in the province but also in other parts of the country.
\nMr Aslam said the government released wheat stocks at a time when prices were rising nationwide, alleging that the Punjab government had restricted supply.
\nHe said that under a provincial cabinet decision, 136,000 metric tonnes of wheat were released at an average landed cost of Rs10,414 per 100kg, while ex-mill and retail flour prices were fixed at Rs2,190 and Rs2,220 per 20kg, respectively.
\nThe move, he added, led to a 33 per cent reduction in wheat prices in Peshawar, from Rs13,650 to Rs9,100 per 100kg, and a 21pc decrease in flour prices, from Rs3,020 to Rs2,380 per 20kg, with a more sustained impact compared to other cities.
