\nThe Punjab government extended the enforcement of Section 144 across the province, maintaining a complete ban on outdoor drone flying, a notification issued on Sunday said.
\nAccording to the Home Department, the restriction on flying drones in open spaces had been extended for another 30 days and would remain in force until May 25. The measure was originally imposed in view of security concerns.
\n\u201cConsidering the overall security situation, it is imperative to ensure the safety of the people and protection of installations and buildings against any potential threat or untoward activity,\u201d the notification stated.
\nThe order emphasised that the restrictions were extended in the \u201clarger interest of public safety, security, peace and tranquillity,\u201d adding that there were \u201csufficient grounds\u201d to continue enforcement under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, to prevent any disturbance of public peace and safeguard lives and property.
\nHowever, the ban does not apply to the limited use of small drones during indoor events. Authorities clarified that small drones may be used inside wedding halls and marquees for coverage purposes.
\n\u201cSafe usage of such drones in a limited and confined indoor area shall be the responsibility of the organiser,\u201d the notification said. The restriction also exempted the use of drones by intelligence and law enforcement agencies.
