PESHAWAR
\nLady Health Workers (LHWs) staged a protest sit-in outside the provincial assembly here on Monday, causing major traffic disruptions across the city.
\nThe demonstration took place at the Assembly Chowk, where protesters blocked Khyber Road, leading to long queues of vehicles and a standstill situation in traffic.
\nThe protest was organized against the non-payment of salaries for the past 11 months. A large number of Lady Health Workers and other health staff participated, saying that repeated promises by the government to release their salaries have not been fulfilled.
\nThe demonstrators said they were left with no option but to take to the streets. Due to the sit-in, all types of traffic on Khyber Road were suspended.
\nWomen from multiple districts, including Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Malakand, Swat and Swabi joined the protest. They demanded immediate payment of pending salaries, introduction of a proper service structure and implementation of court orders regarding their promotions.
