\nThe College of Home Economics, University of Peshawar, organised an awareness seminar in connection with World Hypertension Day to educate the public, particularly students, about hypertension, its early diagnosis, preventive measures and the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle.
\nA large number of health experts, faculty members, students and people from different walks of life attended the seminar.
\nAmong those present on the occasion were Principal Prof. Dr. Shazia Shah, seminar organiser Dr. Aleena Badshah, speaker Dr. Amber Ashraf and senior nutritionist Asma Waheed.
\nAddressing the seminar, Dr. Aleena Badshah said hypertension had become one of the fastest-growing non-communicable diseases worldwide, with many people unaware that they suffer from it. She described hypertension as a \u201csilent killer\u201d that can damage the heart, kidneys, brain and other organs without obvious symptoms.
\nShe urged young people to adopt a balanced diet, ensure proper sleep, engage in regular physical activity and reduce stress to protect themselves from the disease.
\nDr. Amber Ashraf highlighted that unhealthy dietary habits, excessive consumption of fast food, mental stress, smoking, physical inactivity and an overall unhealthy lifestyle are among the major causes of hypertension. She stressed the need for regular blood pressure check-ups and preventive healthcare measures, terming public awareness essential in controlling the disease burden.
\nSenior nutritionist Asma Waheed said nutrition plays a key role in maintaining good health and preventing a range of diseases. She advised students to include fruits, vegetables and natural foods in their daily diet and to make exercise a regular part of life.
\nThe participants were provided detailed information regarding the symptoms, prevention and management of hypertension. Awareness materials were also distributed, while students actively engaged with the experts through questions and discussion.
\nAt the conclusion of the seminar, Principal Prof. Dr. Shazia Shah thanked the organisers, speakers and participants for their contributions. She emphasised that promoting a healthy lifestyle among the younger generation is essential, adding that such awareness programmes in educational institutions play an important role in building a healthier society.
