\nA new chapter in agricultural cooperation between Austria and Pakistan unfolded in Islamabad as the Austrian Ambassador Mr Wolfgang Oliver Kutschera hosted a reception at his residence to celebrate growing partnership aimed at promoting climate-smart and sustainable agriculture through advanced weather forecasting technologies.
\nThe event brought together representatives of Austrian agri-tech company Pessl Instruments, officials of the National Rural Support Programme (NRSP), and representatives from Pakistan\u2019s public and private sectors, reflecting the expanding scope of bilateral cooperation in innovation, trade and sustainable development.
\nAddressing the gathering, Ambassador Kutschera said ties between Austria and Pakistan were gaining strong momentum, particularly in trade, investment and technological collaboration between public and private enterprises.
\nHe said the partnership in climate-smart agriculture demonstrated how innovation and international cooperation could help address pressing environmental and food security challenges.
\nThe ambassador noted that the event came at an important moment in Austria-Pakistan relations, recalling the recent visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Austria at the invitation of Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker. He said the high-level engagement had opened new avenues of cooperation, including the signing of several memorandums of understanding aimed at enhancing economic and investment ties.
\nHe also referred to the recent Pakistan\u2013EU Business Forum in Islamabad, where Austria emerged as the third-largest participating delegation with 14 Austrian companies taking part in productive business-to-business engagements with Pakistani counterparts.
\nFor over four decades, Pessl Instruments has been delivering precision agriculture and climate-smart farming solutions in more than 85 countries. Its METOS weather station systems provide farmers and agricultural managers with accurate, real-time data to tackle increasingly complex climate challenges.
\nAs part of the collaboration, Pessl Instruments announced the gifting of two METOS weather stations to the National Rural Support Programme for deployment in areas where such technologies are needed most, reinforcing a shared commitment to resilient, technology-driven agriculture at the grassroots level.
\nAmbassador Kutschera emphasized that strong local partnerships were essential for the success of such initiatives, adding that the cooperation between Pessl Instruments and NRSP represented a successful model of Austrian innovation being localized through capable Pakistani institutions and outreach networks.
\nHe expressed confidence that the partnership could further expand into areas such as software development, technical support services and broader agricultural innovation ecosystems in Pakistan.
\nConcluding the event, the ambassador said the initiative represented far more than a commercial arrangement, describing it as a shared commitment by Austrian and Pakistani institutions to sustainable agriculture, climate resilience and the prosperity of future generations.
\nThe ceremony concluded with remarks by NRSP CEO, Mr Rashid Bajwa, who thanked the ambassador for hosting the event and appreciated the collaboration between Austrian and Pakistani partners. He said the METOS weather stations gifted to NRSP would directly benefit farmers in underserved areas by supporting informed agricultural decision-making and climate resilience at the grassroots level.
