\nArtificial inflation has made life increasingly difficult for citizens in the city and surrounding areas, while official government price lists are being openly ignored by shopkeepers.
\nIn various markets, hotels, butcher shops, milk and yogurt outlets, and general stores, vendors have reportedly raised prices of essential food items at their own discretion, causing serious concern and frustration among the public.
\nAccording to residents, the prices of meat, milk, yogurt, vegetables, fruits, and other daily-use commodities have witnessed a sudden increase over the past few days.
\nDespite officially fixed rates, most shopkeepers are charging arbitrary prices without any fear of accountability. In several areas, the prices of beef and mutton have been increased excessively, while dairy sellers have also raised the prices of milk and yogurt on their own.
\nMeanwhile, people are also being heavily overcharged at hotels and tea stalls across the city. A cup of tea that was previously available for Rs30 to Rs40 a few months ago is now being sold for Rs50 to Rs70.
\nCitizens say that amid the current wave of inflation, even having a cup of tea at a hotel has become difficult for the common man.
\nShoppers visiting local markets complained that the negligence of the administration and the silence of price control committees have given profiteers a free hand.
\nCitizens alleged that many shopkeepers deliberately hide official rate lists instead of displaying them prominently so that customers remain unaware of the actual prices. In several places, arguments and heated exchanges between buyers and shopkeepers have also been reported.
\nPublic and social circles have demanded that the district administration, assistant commissioners, and relevant authorities take strict action against those involved in artificial inflation.
