Violence is a serious crime that subjects society to instability. The concept of violence implies causing physical, mental, or emotional harm to someone. Assault, threats, taunting, blackmailing, or insulting someone all fall under the category of violence. Violence is also inflicted on a gender basis, such as violence against women, children, and vulnerable segments of society. Now the question arises,why is violence committed? There are several reasons behind committing violence. Apart from intolerance, violence is perpetrated due to a lack of education and awareness.Those holding dissenting opinions are also targeted with violence.Due to low awareness,violence is also inflicted on the weak as a demonstration of power.Furthermore, violence is frequently committed due to economic problems and poverty.There are also some psychological issues because of which violence is perpetrated.Severe legislation must be enacted to stop violence.Perpetrators of violence should be given the harshest punishments so that it is discouraged in society.Domestic violence is also becoming common, and there is a dire need to stop it.Many women are subjected to violence in the name of dowry.Besides this, there are other reasons due to which domestic violence is prevalent.Violence destroys physical and mental health.To eradicate violence, along with raising awareness, the enforcement of strict laws is also essential.The rehabilitation of violence victims is necessary so that they too can lead better lives in society.
\n\u200bIn Islam, violence is strictly disliked.Allah Almighty has created all human beings equal, and no one is permitted to commit violence.Allah Almighty attributes great sanctity to human life.Along with Muslims, the life of a non-believer is also given importance.In the Holy Quran, the command of Allah Almighty states, \u201cWhoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land\u2014it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one,it is as if he had saved mankind entirely\u201d (Al-Ma\u2019idah: 32).Verse number 32 of Surah Al-Ma\u2019idah clearly teaches that no innocent human should be oppressed and killed.Islam does not only stop from killing, but also forbids taking others\u2019 wealth through unlawful means.The Quran states,\u201dO you who have believed, do not consume one another\u2019s wealth unjustly\u201d(An-Nisa: 29). Taking wealth through unlawful means is also a form of violence because the person whose wealth is taken suffers mental agony.Islam forbids fighting without a valid reason.The command of Allah Almighty states,\u201dFight in the way of Allah those who fight you but do not transgress.Indeed.Allah does not like transgressors\u201d(Al-Baqarah: 190). To stop violence, Allah Almighty has issued a command that if two groups fight among themselves, reconciliation should be made between them.The Quran states, \u201cAnd if two factions among the believers should fight, then make settlement between them\u201d (Al-Hujurat: 9). Islam has even commanded that no one\u2019s religion should be changed forcibly. According to the Quran: \u201cThere is no compulsion in religion\u201d (Al-Baqarah: 256). Islam commands the complete eradication of violence.
\n\u200bViolence and oppression are also forbidden in the Ahadith (prophetic traditions). According to a Hadith, the command of Allah Almighty is,\u201dO My servants, I have forbidden oppression for Myself and have made it forbidden amongst you, so do not oppress one another\u201d (Muslim). According to another Hadith,\u201dHe who does not show mercy to others, Allah will not show mercy to him\u201d (Bukhari).Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) forbade cruelty and violence not only towards humans but also towards animals.According to a Hadith \u201cThe Prophet (peace be upon him) strictly forbade striking or branding (burning for identification) an animal on its face\u201d (Muslim). According to another Hadith \u201cA woman was punished because she imprisoned a cat until it died of hunger. She neither gave it anything to eat nor released it so that it could eat the insects of the earth\u201d (Bukhari).
\n\u200bUnder the international law of the United Nations,every form of violence (physical and mental) is completely illegal and prohibited. Under Article 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) adopted in 1948, subjecting any person to torture or cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment is a serious crime on a global level. Every year on June 26th, the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture is observed by the United Nations to raise awareness against this menace.There is another dreadful form of violence, which is state violence by governments against their citizens. Many governments perpetrate violence to keep citizens subjugated.Unjust taxes are imposed on citizens.Due to fear, citizens cannot attain their rights.Apart from imprisonment, they are even killed.Powerful states also subjugate weaker states,leading to the violation of the rights of the citizens of weaker states and their victimization through violence.Prisoners of war are subjected to cruel treatment.Prisoners are given severe torture through sexual, mental, physical, and humiliating violence. Putting international laws aside, the oppressed are subjected to the harshest torture.Every type of violence is prohibited,whether it is by a government against its citizen, by one state against the citizens of another state, or domestic violence.The international community must work together to stop violence. For the betterment of society, it is essential that violence is completely eliminated.<\/p>\n
