\nKhyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed on Wednesday distributed residential plot allotment letters to the families of 67 police martyrs at a ceremony in Peshawar, reaffirming the force\u2019s commitment to the welfare of its fallen personnel.
\nThe event, organized by KP Police to honour the sacrifices of its martyrs, was attended by provincial Housing Minister Dr. Amjad, Housing Secretary Muhammad Tahir Orakzai, Commander 102 Brigade, senior civil, military and police officials, the families of the martyrs, and representatives from civil society and the media.
\nAddressing the gathering, IGP Zulfiqar Hameed said the care and welfare of martyrs\u2019 families was not merely an official duty but a national, moral and religious obligation.
\n\u201cThe debt owed to those brave sons who laid down their lives for the nation can never be repaid. However, protecting the dignity, welfare and future of their families will remain our top priority on every occasion,\u201d he said.
\nThe IGP described KP Police as Pakistan\u2019s most tested and sacrificial force, which had been on the front line of the war against terrorism for the past two and a half decades. He said the province faced more complex security challenges than any other part of the country, but the people, police and security forces had stood shoulder to shoulder against militancy.
\n\u201cDespite the most severe attacks, conspiracies and sacrifices, KP Police has never abandoned the field or turned its back,\u201d he added.
\nHe noted that the recent decision to bring police salaries at par with Punjab Police was a practical acknowledgment of the force\u2019s sacrifices, but said there was still room to improve residential facilities and welfare benefits under the police martyrs\u2019 package. A comprehensive welfare reform programme was underway to extend greater support to martyrs\u2019 families and serving personnel, he said.
\nThe IGP said efforts were being made to ensure every martyr\u2019s family had access to secure housing, either through ready-made homes or financial assistance to buy property of their choice.
\nHe also revealed that militant elements were now targeting the families of police personnel in the merged districts, adding that the matter had been taken up with the government and security measures were being strengthened.
\nSeveral projects for KP Police welfare, modern training, medical facilities, housing schemes and strengthening infrastructure in the merged districts were being implemented with the full support of both federal and provincial governments, he said.
\n\u201cThose nations that honour their martyrs are honoured by history. KP Police will never leave its martyrs and their families alone,\u201d Hameed said, adding that his office would remain open to address their grievances at all times.
\nProvincial Housing Minister Dr. Amjad also spoke at the event.
\nThe families of the martyrs expressed satisfaction with the welfare measures taken by the provincial government and police leadership, and said they hoped the sacrifices of their loved ones would continue to serve as a guiding light for the nation.
