PESHAWAR: To further strengthen transparency through the effective implementation of the Right to Information (RTI) law, the newly appointed Chief Information Commissioner, Syed Nazar Hussain Shah, has announced an ambitious plan to dispose of all 1,500 complaints currently pending before the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Commission within the next two months. To achieve this objective, the Commission will conduct complaint hearings three days a week, hearing approximately 50 cases per day over the next two months to dispose off the existing backlog. APP
\nAs part of this effort, the Commission heard more than 58 complaints filed by citizens against various public bodies during the current week. Public Information Officers (PIOs) and heads of public institutions, including Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, the University of Peshawar, the Directorate General of Sports Peshawar, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar, and Women University Mardan, appeared before the Commission during the proceedings.
\nThe complaints primarily related to requests for information concerning recruitment processes, public funds, merit lists, inquiry reports, seniority lists, and gold medal policies. Most of the public bodies furnished the requested information during the hearings, while some sought an additional week to submit the required records.
\nThe Commission, however, found the information provided by Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar to be incomplete and directed the Vice Chancellor and Registrar to appear at the next hearing with the complete record.
\nSpeaking on the occasion, Chief Information Commissioner Syed Nazar Hussain Shah stated that any negligence, undue delay, or lack of seriousness by public bodies in providing access to public records and information would not be tolerated. He emphasized that compliance with the RTI law is a legal obligation and an essential component of transparent and accountable governance.
