PESHAWAR: Protesting transporters have once again blocked the Pak-Afghan Highway in Zakha Khel Takia area of Khyber District, disrupting cross-border movement and trade activities between Pakistan and Afghanistan. According to the district administration on Sunday, the highway had been reopened a day earlier following a tribal jirga. However, protesters claim that key agreements reached during the jirga have not yet been implemented, prompting them to resume their protest. The transporters stated that the highway will remain closed until their demands are accepted and all decisions made during the jirga are fully enforced. They also demanded that future negotiations be held at Zakha Khel Takia instead of government offices so that all affected parties can directly participate in the discussions. The closure has resulted in long queues of cargo and luggage-loaded vehicles of returning Afghans creating difficulties for businesses and repatriating Afghans.
