\nPESHAWAR
\nKhyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan visited Central Prison Peshawar and reviewed rehabilitation, education and welfare facilities being provided to inmates.
\nDuring the visit, the minister inspected various barracks, prison sections and rehabilitation facilities. He also interacted with prisoners, listened to their concerns and reviewed the arrangements made for their welfare.
\nMr Jan visited the prison library, industrial units and vocational training centres, and examined ongoing educational and reformative initiatives, including art activities, information technology courses and English language classes for inmates.
\nThe minister also visited the prison\u2019s drug rehabilitation centre and met prisoners receiving treatment at the jail hospital. Officials briefed him on healthcare services and medical facilities available to inmates.
\nHe further reviewed the quality of food being served to prisoners and inspected meal standards.
\nDIG Prisons Peshawar Region Baitullah Khan and Superintendent Central Prison Peshawar Muhammad Waseem Khan accompanied the minister during the visit. The prison administration gave a detailed briefing on prisoner welfare programmes, rehabilitation initiatives and administrative affairs.
\nSpeaking on the occasion, Mr Jan directed prison authorities to make every effort to ensure the reform, rehabilitation and constructive development of inmates so they could return to society as responsible citizens.
\nHe said the provincial government was pursuing a vision of transforming prisons from places of confinement into centres of reform, rehabilitation and human development.
\nThe minister emphasised that under the government\u2019s prison reform agenda, the provision of education, vocational training and other essential facilities to inmates remained a key priority.
\nAppreciating the prison administration\u2019s efforts in establishing industrial and vocational initiatives, he said technical training centres were playing an important role in promoting self-reliance among prisoners.
\nMr Jan said the provincial government was introducing additional reform-oriented measures in prisons to facilitate the reintegration of inmates into society after their release.
