\nUnited States President Donald Trump has suggested that the US could, in the future, take control of key Iranian oil infrastructure, including Kharg Island, as part of a broader strategic approach toward the country\u2019s energy sector.
\nIn a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said that \u201cat some point in the not too distant future,\u201d the US would consider \u201ctaking Kharg Island, and other oil infrastructure points,\u201d and assuming \u201ctotal control\u201d of Iran\u2019s oil and gas markets.
\nHe drew a comparison with Venezuela, claiming that US involvement there had been \u201cworking out brilliantly for both Venezuela and the United States of America,\u201d without providing further details to substantiate the assertion.
\nHe threatened that the US would be \u201chitting Iran \u2026 VERY HARD TONIGHT.\u201d
\nUS-Iran talks still on track despite overnight escalations, CNN claims
\nTalks to reach a deal between the US and Iran are on track despite a recent exchange of strikes, CNN reported on Thursday, citing a diplomatic source.
\nAn exchange of attacks between the US and Iran continued for a second consecutive day, with Trump warning that Washington would launch additional strikes unless Tehran immediately accepts the peace deal.
\nIn a statement, the US Central Command said American forces struck multiple military targets in Iran from late Wednesday into early Thursday, describing the attacks as an act of \u201cself-defence\u201d following the downing of a US helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz.
\nTrump earlier said Iran had taken too long to negotiate a deal, and would have to pay a price.

\nIran\u2019s Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that recent US attacks on the country have effectively rendered the April 8 ceasefire \u201cmeaningless,\u201d warning that Washington would bear responsibility for the consequences of the escalation.
