Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Rubina Khalid, has emphasized that the elimination of child labour is essential for building a just, developed, and prosperous society.
\nIn her message on World Day Against Child Labour, Senator Rubina Khalid said that the Constitution of Pakistan guarantees the protection of children from exploitation and forced labour. She noted that Article 11 prohibits forced labour and child exploitation, while Article 25-A ensures every child\u2019s right to free and compulsory education.
\n\u201cChildren should hold books in their hands, not tools,\u201d she stated, stressing the need to address the social and economic factors that force children into labour.
\nThe BISP chairperson said that providing education, healthcare, and protection to every child is a shared responsibility of the state and society. She highlighted that the Employment of Children Act, 1991, along with other relevant laws, provides safeguards against hazardous child labour and called for effective implementation of these laws.
\nSenator Rubina Khalid said that BISP is playing a vital role in supporting vulnerable families, promoting children\u2019s education, and helping secure a brighter future for the country\u2019s youth. She emphasized that investing in children\u2019s education is, in fact, an investment in Pakistan\u2019s future.
\nShe further stated that the eradication of child labour is indispensable for national development and social justice. Calling for a united effort, she urged the government, private sector, parents, and civil society organizations to work together to protect children\u2019s rights and ensure equal opportunities for their growth and development.
