ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) expert Syed Muhammad Tayyab Shah Friday called for stronger joint efforts and greater awareness on climate change, warning that rising temperatures could make 2027 one of the hottest years on record and stressed the need for coordination among government departments, emergency services, and partners. While speaking to a local media outlet, NDMA expert Tayyab Shah highlighted that the global warming trend continues, warning that each year is becoming hotter than the previous one and urging stronger cooperation among all stakeholders to address the growing climate crisis. \nHe stated that due to climate change, rising temperatures are expected to persist in 2026, with intense heat conditions likely to continue across the country, increasing environmental stress and public safety risks.
\nHe further warned that 2027 could become one of the hottest years on record, bringing serious risks such as increased pressure on rivers, accelerated glacier melt, changing weather patterns, and a rise in mountainous hazards.He also noted that greenhouse gas emissions are contributing significantly to these changes, making Pakistan one of the most vulnerable countries, particularly facing threats like landslides, flash floods, and sudden heavy rainfall events.
\nHe added that NDMA is actively strengthening preparedness through early warning systems, digital monitoring, and improved alert mechanisms, but stressed that effective disaster management requires stronger coordination between federal and provincial institutions, emergency services and humanitarian partners.
