In developed countries, the unemployment rate is very low,almost non-existentIn developing countries, it has reached a very high level. Unemployment is also spreading rapidly in Pakistan. If immediate steps are not taken to control it, the consequences in the future will be extremely severe.Even now, unemployment has increased to a highly alarming level.The overall unemployment rate is around 7.1%.Policies are being made that do not eliminate unemployment.There is a need to formulate such policies that can actually reduce unemployment.
\nAccording to the International Labour Organization (ILO), unemployment is defined as: \u201cAn unemployed person is one who does not have a job and has been actively seeking work for the past four weeks.\u201d In Pakistan, however, people remain unemployed for months or even years. Unemployment gives rise to numerous problems. Due to the economic crisis and limited job opportunities in IT, agriculture, and industry, the difficulties faced by young people and the highly educated class have increased significantly. The rising number of affected individuals is extremely worrying. Youth unemployment has reached a dangerous level. If immediate preventive measures are not taken, controlling this situation in the future will become very difficult.
\nThere are many reasons for unemployment. The country\u2019s weak economy is a major cause of rising unemployment. Industrial problems are also widespread. Slow industrial growth is further increasing unemployment. The agriculture sector is declining due to neglect. No attention is being paid to skill development, even though learning modern skills has now become essential. People acquire traditional education but technical education is ignored. A young person may hold a degree but remains unable to find a job because they lack practical skills. Skills must be learned according to market demand. Lack of familiarity with IT and the internet also contributes to unemployment. Modern education and skills should be acquired to reduce unemployment. Frequent internet and network shutdowns in Pakistan severely affect digital employment opportunities. Illiteracy is another factor that increases unemployment. Due to poverty and other problems, many people cannot acquire education. Lack of education is highly detrimental to any society. In Pakistan, the education sector does not receive proper attention, and the results are disastrous. Unemployment is also rising due to laziness and idleness. A lazy person cannot work because of their own lethargy. There are many other reasons as well that are continuously contributing to the increase in unemployment.
\nPractical steps are urgently needed to control unemployment. Youth can be made employable by providing them with digital training. Industrial development is essential for reducing unemployment. Industries should be given subsidies, and efforts should be made to provide them with affordable energy. Many industries are shutting down due to various problems and need to be restarted immediately. Innovation must also be introduced in agriculture, and modern machinery should be provided. Maximum business opportunities should be created in Pakistan. Interest-free loans should be offered for businesses so that young people are encouraged to become entrepreneurs. When young people start businesses, they will also create jobs for others. Wrong policies are often made that actually increase unemployment. Policies should be formulated in consultation with experts so that the country can progress. Both government and private sector jobs need to be created. At present, people are being laid off, which is further increasing unemployment. The country\u2019s mineral resources should also be properly utilized.
\nThe harms of unemployment are also very severe. Lack of employment leads to depression, despair, and psychological disorders. An unemployed person often cannot afford treatment, and these illnesses destroy lives. Millions of people are forced to migrate abroad in search of work. Doctors, engineers, and other skilled professionals are leaving the country for employment. If proper job opportunities were available domestically, no one would want to leave. An unemployed person can easily turn to crime. To fulfill basic needs, money is required, when it is unavailable, people resort to robbery, theft, or fraud. When an unemployed individual suffers from depression, they often turn to drugs for relief, thus destroying their life. Many unemployed people also start selling drugs. Unemployment leads to poverty, which in turn causes fights and disputes within families. These conflicts can escalate to divorce, murder, and violence. Some young people only desire high-level positions and refuse lower jobs, preferring to remain unemployed, which is very unfortunate. Some youth shy away from hard work, which is highly regrettable. There should be no shame in honest labor; any lawful work is honorable. Unemployment is not solely the government\u2019s responsibility, we as individuals are also responsible.
