Accuses Israel of a lack of trust in its \u200bstrongest ally

\nUnited States Vice \u200bPresident JD Vance criticised Israel for a \u201cweird panic\u201d and \u201cfreakout\u201d over the agreement struck between the US \u200cand Iran, in an interview released on Thursday as the Trump administration sought to tamp down criticism of the deal.
\nIsraeli officials across the political spectrum, including some of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu\u2019s allies, have criticised the agreement, saying it did not address their concerns over Iran\u2019s nuclear \u200band ballistic missile programmes and would tie down Israel\u2019s military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
\n\u201cThere \u200bis this weird panic almost in the Israeli system that I\u2019ve picked up on where they assume that everything that is contemplated that is good for Iran will happen \u2014 but that will happen without \u200bthe Iranians changing any behaviour,\u201d Vance said in an interview with the New York Times.
\n\u201cThat\u2019s not how the deal is written.\u201d
\nThe \u200bUS would not remove sanctions on Iran if it were still funding a terrorist organisation, he said, in an apparent reference to Hezbollah, which Washington has long labelled a foreign terrorist organisation.
\nVance accused Israel of a lack of trust in its \u200bstrongest ally.
\n\u201cI find this whole freakout in Israel a little bit odd because I think that it comes from a \u200bplace of mistrust, and I think that America has earned the trust of that region of the world,\u201d Vance said.
\n\u201cWe\u2019ve done a \u200cvery good job by that particular country and that particular government,\u201d he said of Israel. \u201cAnd I think that the idea that we\u2019ve made a terrible deal is not supported by the facts, but just doesn\u2019t make any sense if you consider the broad length of the relationship.\u201d
\nCiting specific critics of the deal \u2014 far-right Israeli cabinet ministers Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich \u2014 Vance said: \u201cI guess my response to them would be: What is your exact proposal? You\u2019re a country of nine million people. You can\u2019t just kill your way out \u200bof solving every single national security problem that you have.\u201d
