Pakistan is among the fortunate countries of the world where the proportion of young people in the population is exceptionally high. Nearly two-thirds of the country\u2019s population is under the age of 30, a phenomenon often described by experts as a \u201cyouth bulge.\u201d This demographic reality presents both a golden opportunity and a significant challenge for Pakistan. If young people are provided with quality education, modern skills, employment opportunities, and positive guidance, they can become the driving force behind the country\u2019s economic growth, social stability, and technological innovation. However, if their potential remains untapped, they may become an additional burden on national resources.
\nRecognizing this reality, the Government of Pakistan introduced the Prime Minister\u2019s Youth Programme (PMYP) as a comprehensive platform for youth development and nation-building. The primary objective of the programme is to empower young people through education, employment, entrepreneurship, social inclusion, and environmental awareness, enabling them to play an active role in the country\u2019s progress.
\nEducation is the cornerstone of national development. Under the Prime Minister\u2019s Youth Programme, various initiatives have been launched to provide young people with access to modern educational resources. Through the Laptop Scheme, thousands of students have been connected to modern technology, enhancing their academic capabilities and enabling them to benefit from research opportunities, online education, and digital resources. In today\u2019s world, access to knowledge is no longer confined to classrooms; digital platforms and online learning have become essential components of academic and professional success.
\nAlongside education, the importance of skills development has grown significantly. Keeping this need in mind, the programme\u2019s skill development initiatives are providing training aligned with market demands. Training in information technology, freelancing, digital marketing, artificial intelligence, technical skills, and other modern professional fields is equipping young people to compete for employment opportunities both within Pakistan and internationally. These efforts aim to transform youth from job seekers into a skilled, self-reliant, and productive workforce.
\nAnother important aspect of the Prime Minister\u2019s Youth Programme is the promotion of entrepreneurship among young people. Through the Youth Business and Agriculture Loan Scheme, young entrepreneurs are being offered loans on easy terms to start businesses and agricultural ventures. This initiative not only enables youth to create self-employment opportunities but also helps generate jobs for others. A strong entrepreneurial culture contributes to economic activity and strengthens the national economy.
\nSustainable development cannot be achieved without the active participation of women in national progress. Various initiatives under the Prime Minister\u2019s Youth Programme, particularly projects such as \u201cGirls Learn, Girls Earn,\u201d are playing a vital role in providing women with education, skills, and economic opportunities. The empowerment of women is essential not only for the development of families but also for the advancement of society as a whole.
\nThe programme also places special emphasis on the social and moral development of young people. Through sports, volunteer activities, leadership training, and community service projects, youth are encouraged to develop responsibility, discipline, and a spirit of national service. Similarly, participation in environmental protection initiatives helps prepare them to address future challenges such as climate change and environmental sustainability. The reality is that Pakistan\u2019s future is closely tied to its youth. In today\u2019s competitive world, nations achieve progress by investing in the education, skills, and opportunities of their younger generations.
\nThe Prime Minister\u2019s Youth Programme reflects this vision. If its objectives are pursued effectively and its benefits are extended to young people across the country, Pakistan can transform its growing population into a valuable national asset.
