Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Barrister Daniyal Chaudhry on Wednesday said the government was taking serious measures to permanently address water shortages in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, with significant progress being made on key water infrastructure projects, including the Ghazi Barotha initiative.
\nSpeaking to the media outside Parliament House, he described water scarcity as one of the country\u2019s most pressing challenges and said the government was pursuing a comprehensive policy to ensure sustainable solutions.
\nHe said multiple projects were being implemented to guarantee a reliable water supply for residents of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, adding that the government was committed to strengthening water infrastructure to meet growing urban needs.
\nBarrister Daniyal Chaudhry termed the Ghazi Barotha project a vital undertaking and reaffirmed the government\u2019s determination to complete it. He noted that successive efforts had been made in the past to improve water supply to Rawalpindi through various approved projects, while the present government was continuing and accelerating those initiatives.
\n\u201cOur objective is to resolve Rawalpindi\u2019s water issues in a manner that citizens do not face major shortages for coming several years,\u201d he said, emphasizing the government\u2019s long-term vision for water security.
\nResponding to a question regarding the local government system, the parliamentary secretary said special attention was being given to addressing urban infrastructure and civic service challenges in major cities, particularly Karachi. He said the federal government would continue to play its role in resolving public issues and welcomed constructive proposals aimed at highlighting and addressing citizens\u2019 concerns.
\nBarrister Daniyal Chaudhry also noted that the government had successfully secured the passage of the federal budget with the support of its coalition partners and would now focus more intensively on resolving both major and minor public issues.
\nAnswering another question, he said Karachi and Lahore were both important metropolitan centers with distinct challenges and development requirements. However, he added, the government was actively pursuing development projects and infrastructure improvements in both cities to enhance public services and quality of life.
