\nQatar\u2019s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani said his country would \u200cresume normal liquefied \u200cnatural gas production \u201cwithin a few weeks\u201d, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday. But establishing a hotline between the US and \u200cIran \u200cis essential to \u200creopen the Strait \u200cof Hormuz, he told the FT in an interview.
\nAl-Thani noted that the so-called \u201chotline\u201d agreed by the warring parties at their talks in Switzerland was needed \u201cto counter \u2018disinformation\u2019 and ensure co-ordination while mines were cleared from the crucial waterway.\u201d He noted that the communication was essential to get information needed to guarantee the safety of vessels.
\n\u201cSo the hotline\u2019s purpose is to make sure that any ship that gets any type of threat is to be verified by Iran\u2009\u2026 and to let the ship pass safely.\u201d Sheikh Mohammed said Qatar, the world\u2019s second-largest LNG exporter whose facilities were hit by Iran in the early weeks of the war, had already started to prepare its tankers after the warring parties signed a memorandum of understanding last week.
\n\u201cWithin a few weeks, production will come back to normal, except the damaged facility,\u201d Sheikh Mohammed said. \u201cOur teams have been mobilized already for a few weeks. QatarEnergy is preparing for operations to come back to normal as soon as the situation in the strait normalizes.\u201d
