Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani Thursday underscored Pakistan\u2019s commitment to further strengthening its longstanding and friendly relations with Portugal.
\nDuring a meeting with the Ambassador of Portugal to Pakistan, Paulo Miguel Guedes Dominguez, he said that both countries enjoy cordial ties and cooperate closely at bilateral and multilateral levels to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development.
\nThe Chairman emphasised the importance of continued high-level engagement and expressed confidence that the upcoming Bilateral Political Consultations in Islamabad would further enhance cooperation between the two countries.
\nHighlighting economic relations, Gilani said the steady growth in bilateral trade and stressed the need to explore greater collaboration in trade, investment, agriculture, information technology, education, culture, and the blue economy, said a news release.
\nHe also appreciated Portugal\u2019s support for Pakistan, particularly regarding the GSP Plus framework, and expressed hope for continued cooperation in this regard.
\nReferring to the Pakistani community in Portugal, he described the diaspora as an important bridge between the two countries.
\nHe also emphasised the importance of expanding educational cooperation, academic exchanges, and workforce mobility, expressing hope for the early conclusion of the Labour Mobility Partnership Agreement.
\nThe Chairman highlighted the role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations and welcomed continued interaction between Parliamentary Friendship Groups and legislators of both countries.
\nPaulo Miguel Guedes Dominguez thanked the Chairman of the Senate for the warm welcome and reaffirmed Portugal\u2019s commitment to further deepening cooperation with Pakistan in the political, parliamentary, economic, educational, and cultural fields.
