KOHAT: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government has approved a series of flood protection and water conservation projects worth billions of rupees for Karak district following sustained efforts by former provincial minister and MPA Muhammad Sajjad Barakwal. The approved schemes include flood protection walls, embankments, check dams, causeways and small water storage reservoirs across flood-prone areas, including Lawaghar Algada, Mashi Khel, Kashu Ghara, Mohbati Khelay, Zamari Gardang, Kas Banda, Lindiki Koroona, Paloski Banda, Lundi Wagi, Kunda Siraj Khel, Takrawan, Surti Khelay, Chokara Dawala, Wanki Kal Tangi, Darki Banda and Deli Banda. \nAccording to officials, the projects are aimed at reducing the impact of seasonal and flash floods by protecting agricultural land, residential areas, roads, bridges and other public infrastructure.
\nThe schemes are also expected to improve water storage capacity, support irrigation, recharge groundwater, reduce soil erosion and strengthen the district\u2019s resilience to climate-related challenges.
\nMuhammad Sajjad Barakwal said the approvals were the result of years of continuous engagement with the relevant authorities and described the projects as a significant step towards protecting vulnerable communities and promoting sustainable development in Karak.
\nHe stressed the need for timely and transparent execution of the projects to ensure local residents receive their intended benefits without delay.
